The Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears will both be looking to pick up the pace from last season. The Chicago Bears finished a disappointing 8-8, narrowly missing a shot at the playoffs in the tightly contested NFC North. The Buffalo Bills will be looking to climb out of the cellar after finishing 6-10 in last place in the AFC East.

The Chicago Bears look to field a powerhouse offense this season, with most of their offensive starters from last year returning. The biggest question mark on the offensive side of the ball for Chicago is quarterback Jay Cutler — not his performance so much as his health. Cutler has shown a decided inability to make it through an entire NFL season in one piece. The Bears will need him to stay upright and on the field if they hope to compete for the NFC North this year, as they’ll be chasing the perennially tough Green Bay Packers and a much-improved Detroit Lions. The Bears have also beefed up their defense, especially the D-line. Look for Chicago to be tough against the run in today’s Chicago Bears vs. Buffalo Bills game and throughout the season.

In a related article in Inquisitr, Jay Cutler recently made a hefty donation to a Little League team.

The Bills meanwhile are looking shaky already. They had a dismal preseason, going 1-3 behind struggling second-year quarterback E.J. Manuel. If Manuel doesn’t perform well early, Chicago’s defense could very well see a very familiar face taking snaps. The Bills signed former Chicago Bear quarterback Kyle Orton, who is expected to compete for the starting job if Manuel flounders.

In a related report in Inquisitr, Kyle Orton’s signing sparked a good deal of umbrage among Dallas Cowboy fans.

The Bills are likely to rely heavily on their running game. Expect C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson to both get plenty of carries. The question, of course, is whether they’ll be able to crack the recently revamped defensive line of the Chicago Bears.

Look for both the Buffalo Bills and the Chicago Bears to look to improve on last season. The Bears, especially, could make a serious bid for the playoffs if they start their season out right.

Vegas vs Nashville live

The Blackhawks have played well as of late but against the Nashville Predators, you better be close to perfect. They weren’t, so they left sans two points. Still, it wasn’t a bad outing.

Here are five takeaways from the Blackhawks’ 3-2 loss on Tuesday night:

1. Second-period swing.

The first period wasn’t a bad one for the Blackhawks. But Duncan Keith took an unsportsmanlike conduct at the end of it, and while the Predators didn’t score on the power play that opened the second period they swung momentum their way. The Predators outplayed the Blackhawks and took a 2-1 lead.

2. Tough night for Panik.

Much like some of his teammates, Richard Panik has dealt with a scoring slump. While other teammates have broken out of their doldrums, Panik is still struggling. He looked to be fighting the puck that much more on Tuesday.

3. Solid outing for Anton Forsberg.

You can debate who should’ve started which back-to-back game. Coach Joel Quenneville opted for Corey Crawford against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday before starting Forsberg against the Predators.

Despite the Blackhawks loss, it’s hard to hang this on Forsberg. He had a good performance, stopping 28 of 31. Said Quenneville, “tough one at the end, hitting off us (Roman Josi’s goal going off Brent Seabrook’s stick), and it was a big goal. But he made some key saves all alone on broken plays, made some key saves to give us a chance to stay in the game.”

The National Football League Season is the period each year during which NFL teams play several not-for-the-record exhibition games before the actual “championship” or “regular” season starts. Beginning with the featured Pro Football Hall of Fame game in early August, five weekends of exhibition games are currently played in the NFL. The start of the season is intrinsically tied to the last week of training camp.

The television rights to broadcast National Football League (NFL) games are the most lucrative and expensive rights of any American sport. Television brought professional football into prominence in the modern era after World War II. Since then, National Football League broadcasts have become among the most-watched programs on American television, and the financial fortunes of entire networks have rested on owning NFL broadcasting rights. This has raised questions about the impartiality of the networks’ coverage of games and whether they can criticize the NFL without fear of losing the rights and their income.

St. Louis Blues vs Calgary Flames live

Flames-Blues Preview

GAME: Calgary Flames (35-26-7-3) at St. Louis Blues (33-26-10-2).

TIME: Sunday, 8 p.m. EST.

The Calgary Flames look to distance themselves from the St. Louis Blues in the Western Conference standings as the teams meet at Savvis Center.

Calgary, just two points ahead of St. Louis and Nashville for sixth place in the West, managed a 4-4 tie with the Predators on Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Blues pulled themselves into a tie for seventh by beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3.

“These (conference games) are even bigger because we’re getting closer to the end and the standings are very tight,” the Flames’ Denis Gauthier said. “So we’ve got to approach each game the same way we have all season – one game at a time.”

Calgary’s Craig Conroy had three assists against Nashville, giving him seven points (one goal, six assists) in his last three games.

Calgary will be looking for a repeat of its last visit to St. Louis, a 4-2 victory on March 2. That was the Flames’ second win in the last 10 road meetings with the Blues (2-7-1).

St. Louis’ playoff run has received a boost from Mike Sillinger.

The Blues, unbeaten in their last six games (4-0-2), acquired Sillinger from the Coyotes on March 4. In five games since the deal, Sillinger has three goals and two assists.

“It’s my job,” the 32-year-old Sillinger said. “It’s like a second life for me. I enjoyed it at Phoenix, but coming here and getting a chance for the playoffs, especially at my age, it’s all a player can ask for.”

St. Louis, which has reached the playoffs 24 consecutive years, moved one point ahead of Los Angeles in the race for eighth place in the Western Conference. The Blues’ postseason streak is the longest current run in professional sports.

STANDINGS: Flames – 80 points, 3rd place, 11 PB, Northwest Division. Blues – 78 points, 2nd place (tied), 16 PB, Central Division.

TEAM LEADERS: Flames – Jarome Iginla, 36 goals and 63 points; Conroy, 38 assists; Chris Simon, 227 PIM. Blues – Keith Tkachuk, 29 goals and 64 points; Doug Weight, 44 assists; Mike Danton, 141 PIM.

SPECIAL TEAMS (through March 12): Flames – Power play: 15.3 percent (48 for 314), 21st in NHL. Penalty killing: 83.7 percent (251 for 300), 19th. Blues – Power play: 17.5 percent (53 for 302), 9th. Penalty killing: 84.3 percent (284 for 337), 15th.

GOALTENDERS: Flames – Miikka Kiprusoff (19-7-3, 2, 1.64); Roman Turek (4-10-0, 1 SO, 2.68 GAA). Blues – Chris Osgood (24-22-8, 2, 2.26); Reinhard Divis (4-3-1, 0, 3.09).

SEASON SERIES: Blues, 2-1.

LAST MEETING: March 2; Flames, 4-2. At St. Louis, Iginla had two goals, including the game-winner with 3:30 remaining, as Calgary spoiled the home debut of new Blues coach Mike Kitchen.

Fortune favours the bold – except on the Internet, where predictions live forever as a public reminder of your stupidity. But that’s never stopped us before.Hockey is back. So are we with one bold (or boneheaded) prediction for each of the NHL’s 31 teams ahead of the 2017-18 season:

1. ANAHEIM – Move over Calgary and Nashville. The Ducks will be recognized as the NHL’s top defence corps.

, , and are the Ducks’ engine now – not and . It’s still hard to believe Anaheim was deep enough to willingly part with last summer. And

is still coming.

2. ARIZONA – It was Tom Petty who said the waiting is the hardest part, but that’s what the Coyotes will do this season. Wait one year, improve, and then make the jump back into the playoffs. It will happen, with a revival led by

and the Arizona’s rebuilt blueline. It just won’t happen overnight.

3. BOSTON –

will be this season’s

. Their paths are so similar. Werenski, then 19, stepped into the Blue Jackets’ lineup last season after two years at Michigan and ripped off 47 points while playing 21 minutes a night. McAvoy, now 19, was unfazed by six playoff games last spring as his welcome-to-the-NHL moment last spring after two years at nearby Boston University.

4. BUFFALO –

will finish in the Top 5 in NHL scoring. Eichel, who turns 21 this month, was tied for eighth in scoring from Nov. 29 (when he made his season debut) through the remainder of the season. The Sabres will be equally impressed by the leadership jump Eichel makes off the ice, displaying a sincere maturity while maintaining his can’t-stand-losing attitude.

5. CALGARY –

will bank 20 goals and best his age in points, shrinking the pool of naysayers who say he can’t play until age 50. The mulleted wonder will help and

grow, maybe even as linemates, as he passes Gordie Howe to become the NHL’s all-time games played leader.

6. CAROLINA –

will prove to be the best off-season pickup, as the Hurricanes snap the NHL’s longest playoff drought (2008-09) with the help of their young and mobile defence. You can practically taste the Carolina BBQ at warm April parking lot tailgates at PNC Arena as hockey is reborn in Raleigh.

7. CHICAGO – Joel Quenneville will be teetering on the hot seat after the Blackhawks bow out in the first round of the playoffs for the third year in a row. GM Stan Bowman said that would not be acceptable, but part of it isn’t Quenneville’s fault, as he’s never had this much of a project on defence.

8. COLORADO – With seemingly little identity or direction for the Avalanche, GM Joe Sakic will step down at the end of another abysmal season. Sakic made marginal changes to the NHL’s worst team of the salary-cap era last season, leaving many to wonder about his long-term vision for the franchise.

9. COLUMBUS – After 18 years, the Blue Jackets will finally earn their first banner to hang in Nationwide Arena as Metropolitan Division champions. It’s no small feat, considering the Metro is the toughest division in the league again, and up until now only the logos of other NHL teams waved in the rafters. It’s no guarantee for playoff success, though, which will leave John Tortorella and Jarmo Kekalainen with an empty feeling.
